Place Royale forms a Neoclassical ensemble laid out in the late eighteenth century in the Coudenberg district. Its façades, Saint-Jacques-sur-Coudenberg church and the equestrian statue of Godfrey of Bouillon provide landmarks for understanding its composition. Distinguish this history from its current layout: in February 2026, Beliris announced the inauguration of a reorganised square, giving pedestrians more space and defining traffic areas. A photograph taken before these works therefore does not represent its present condition. The square can form part of a walk towards the museums and Royal Palace without including their interior visits.

Practical tips

Observe the whole ensemble of façades, not just the central statue.
Allow for the traffic areas that remain despite the increased priority for pedestrians.
Old photographs show a layout different from the one inaugurated in 2026.
